The Pokagon Band Tribal Police Department currently has eight Police Officers, and three Sergeants assigned to road patrol. These Officers respond to calls for service on tribal property throughout the Band's ten county service area in Michigan and Indiana. All Officers with the Pokagon Tribal Police are sworn in as Deputy Sheriffs in Berrien, Cass, and VanBuren Counties, and are special commissioned as federal officers under the Bureau Of Indian Affairs. This enables Pokagon Tribal Police Officers to assist local, county, and state agencies with calls for service in Berrien Cass and VanBuren Counties, including but not limited to traffic enforcement and investigation of crimes. The Pokagon Tribal Police Department has Officers on patrol 24 hours a day 7 days a week and are dedicated to protecting and defending tribal citizens, property, welfare, and the sovereignty of the Pokagon tribe.
