  • Planning Division

The Planning Division is an important element to a well-rounded DNR. Essentially everything that a planning department does affects the Earth and Her environmental components such as water, air quality, it's ecology, etc. Conventional land planning typically views environmental components as obstacles to "progress"; or as expendable resources as a means for "progress." Unfortunately, this approach is a major contributing factor to the environmental problems society faces today.

Tribal Council and the authors of the Constitution of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians had the foresight to understand the necessity of conservation-based land planning to avoid duplicating the undesired effects from conventional land planning. Conservation and natural resources are a priority in the planning process and documents mandated in Article IV- Tribal Lands of the Constitution.

The Planning Division has begun work on several projects that will reflect the strategic planning required for the type of positive growth and program development that the Pokagon Band is experiencing. One of the outcomes of the strategic planning process will be the development of a Tribal Master, or Comprehensive, Plan. This plan will incorporate all aspects of the Tribal Government. The plan will include:

    • Hazard Mitigation Plan
    • Emergency Management Plan
    • Transit Study
    • BIA Reservation Roads Program
    • Tribal Road Inventory
    • Transportation Improvement Plan
    • Long Range Transportation Plan
    • DOE-Energy Efficiency
      and Conservation Strategy
