John Pigeon, with help from his son, guided Pokagon Band community members in the making of family food bundles. These bundles consist of silverware and dishes made from wood. Most in attendance made spoons, and those who had made spoons in the past tried their hand at making bowls. Kids, parents, and grandparents alike placed coals on their wood to burn a scoop and carved away the rest, leaving a usable spoon.
This may seem like an arduous, impossible task, but it's not. If our ancestors could do it, so can we! Click here for a step-by-step guide to making your very own wooden spoon.
