Pokagon peacemaking gathering to explore cultural foundations in our language for peacemaking as our journey for cultural revitalization continues
Using a circular setting, retired Navajo Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Yazzie will lead us in some deep discussions into our language to broaden our collective language awareness. Each of us only have part of the wisdom, but jointly we can put the pieces together. We will embark on a journey to develop a broader community understanding of the support in our language for Native Justice practices like:
- non-adversarial approaches to relationship building
- conflict resolution peace circles
- issue identification and problem solving
- the Seven Grandfather teachings
- healing and transformation
Culturally, what are the deeper meanings of the concepts related to "fairness," "justice," "mno-bmadsen," and "community harmony?" We will also explore the support for such practices in our traditional stories, teachings, and other cultural sources.
