Yajmownen

The Band hosts its own podcast, called “Yajmownen,” which means “stories” in Potawatomi. In each episode, you can hear stories of citizens reconnecting with culture, reviving traditions, and reclaiming heritage. We release an episode monthly, on the first Monday of the month. Subscribe to receive notifications of new episodes.

This month's episode is about Loraine Gideon as she tries to understand what happened to her mother at the Mount Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School. In the late 1800s through the early 1900s, Native American children were forced from their homes and taken to boarding schools across the US. You'll also hear results from years of excavation and research by archaeologists from Central Michigan University.
