Covid-19 Other Laptop Program

THE PROGRAM

Tribal Council authorized the purchase of or reimbursement for laptops for all Citizens, at a limit of one laptop per household to comply with COVID-19 public health measures, including those requiring social distancing.

ELIGIBLE PURCHASES AND REIMBURSEMENTS

Tribal Council authorized the purchase of or reimbursement of a laptop for all eligible citizens, so long as:

1.   The citizen certifies that there is a need to comply with COVID-19 public health measures, including those requiring social distancing,  and

2.   The Pokagon Band has not already provided or reimbursed such citizen or the student’s parent or guardian for a laptop to facilitate the student’s distance learning due to COVID-19 under the COVID-19 Student Laptop Program.

LAPTOP

The request may be for a laptop.

There is a limit of one device per household.

COST OF LAPTOP

The cost of the laptop may not exceed $500 per household.

TIMELINES

For Purchases Requests:

  • Parents or guardians must request a laptop from IT by December 1, 2020; and
  • Laptops are received by the Pokagon Band by December 30, 2020, and

For Reimbursement Requests:

  • A laptop, iPad, or tablet was purchased and received between March 1, 2020, and December 1, 2020; and
  • The receipt must be received by the Pokagon IT staff by December 4, 2020.

CERTIFICATION

By accepting the equipment, the Citizen certifies that they have a need for a laptop to comply with COVID-19 public health measures, including those requiring social distancing.

TO REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT

To request a reimbursement, a tribal citizen must:

  • Purchase a laptop, iPad, or tablet; and
  • Complete the online application/reimbursement form and certification of need; and
  • Provide the receipt dated between March 1, 2020 and December 1, 2020.
  • The receipt must be received by the Pokagon IT staff by December 4, 2020.

TO REQUEST PURCHASE OF A LAPTOP

To request purchase of a laptop, a tribal citizen must:

  • Complete the online application and certification of need; and
  • Citizens must request a laptop from IT by December 1, 2020.

Because laptops must be received by the Pokagon Band by December 30, 2020, the purchased laptops will the supplied on a “first-applied first-supplied” basis. Because of these timeline restrictions, applicants are encouraged to request reimbursement if possible. 

The request is not a guarantee of receipt, if a laptop is not available to the Pokagon Band by December 30, 2020 as a result of supply chain issues.

Pokagon IT staff will check with Social Services and the Department of Education to determine if a laptop has already been provided or reimbursed, other than for elementary and secondary students under the Student Laptop Program.

Device Agreement

This device has been provided under the CRF monies for Other Tribal Citizens not included in the Student Laptop Program. If reasonable precautions and care are taken in the use of the device, the laptop should not experience physical damage.

All devices provided are intended to be used to access remote learning and other educational uses. Students are expected to follow the guidelines below and take any additional common sense precautions to protect the device. Students are responsible for taking care of the device.

Care and Maintenance

  • The student/family is responsible for the daily care and maintenance of the laptop. Any damage or theft is the responsibility of the student/family.
  • Keep the laptop in a safe place when not in use.
  • Students/families should report problems first to the laptop manufacturer. Do not attempt to remove, add, or change the physical structure of the device, including keys, memory, battery, screen, charger, ID labels, etc.as it could void the laptop warranty.
  • Carry the device carefully at all times. Do not store items on top of the device.

Usage Guidelines

  • Devices provided to households are intended to be used to comply with COVID-19 public health measures, including those requiring social distancing.
  • Treat this device carefully.
  • Understand that this equipment has been provided by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians with CRF monies to assit in remote learning and other appropriate activities. If equipment is stolen or lost, the program will not be able to provide another device.
  • Citizens must not sell the device, or laptop to another individual.
  • Citizens must not use this device in a way that could be personally or physically harmful.
  • Citizens must not use technologies for illegal activities or to pursue information on such activities.

Personal Safety and Privacy

  • Users should never share personal information, including phone number, address, social security number, birthday, or financial information, over the Internet without adult permission.
  • Users should recognize that communicating over the Internet brings anonymity and associated risks, and should carefully safeguard the personal information of themselves and others.
  • Users should never agree to meet someone they meet online in real life without parental permission. If students see a 

Limitation of Liability

The Pokagon Band will not be responsible for damage or harm to persons, files, data, or hardware. Devices do not employ filtering and other safety and security mechanisms. The Pokagon Band will not be responsible, financially or otherwise, for unauthorized transactions.
