Independent Living Home Modification Assistance

The Independent living home modification assistance program is designed to provide conditional grants to assist qualified Applicants in obtaining repairs to a home demonstrating mobility or healthcare needs. Assistance shall not exceed $25,000.00

Citizens may use ILMHA funds for, but not limited to the following:

-Chair lift for staircases          -Grab Bars                                       -Replace doorknobs with handles
-Non-slip flooring                  - Widened Doorways                      -Automatic lights
-Entry Ramp(s)                       -Lower Kitchen Counters                 -Lifts for chairs/beds
-Bathroom remodels including roll-in showers, walk in tub(s), roll under sinks, automatic faucets, raised toilets.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

1.      Must be a Citizen Household who demonstrates a health need

Or Be a Citizen or Non-Citizen who:

  • Is at least Eighteen (18) years of age or emancipated by operation of law or court with the legal capacity to contract.
  • Has legal custody of a Citizen minor child who is no more than thirteen (13) years of age and resides with the Applicant in the home to be rehabilitated (if non-citizen).
  • Is the legal guardian of a Citizen who has a Permanent disability and resides with the Applicant in the home to be rehabilitated.

2.      Be within the HUD Income Guidelines.

3.      Must live within the Ten County Service Area.

4.      Payments are made directly to Contractor awarded project by Pokagon Band Housing; Citizens will not be reimbursed through ILHMA.

5.      Be a homeowner or Renter (ALL rental properties must be zoned for residential use. Renters seeking assistance must have approval from the Director of Housing and the Landlord/Property Management Company).

6.      Applicant must own/rent and occupy the home, Applicant shall not reside at any other home.

7.      Title to the property shall be clear.

8.      Is not in debt to the Pokagon Band.
