City of Dowagiac Public Advisory
On Thursday, August 1, the City of Dowagiac issued a public advisory after lead was found to be above the Action Level in tested homes. Per the CDC, there is no safe blood level of lead for young children, and exposure can negatively affect childhood development. To prevent exposure where water may be affected, particularly in households with children or pregnant women, it is recommended to use filtered water for drinking and cooking. If you are concerned that you have been exposed to lead, PHS is offering blood lead testing for Pokagon Band citizens and PHS patients, and their household members who have a Dowagiac residential address. Please contact Pokagon Health Services on (269) 782-4141 if you would like to schedule an appointment or have health related questions.
