The Pokagon Band Tribal Police Department currently has 30 police officers and eight sergeants assigned to road patrol. These officers respond to calls for service on tribal property throughout the band’s ten county service areas in Michigan and Indiana. All officers with the Pokagon Tribal Police are sworn in as deputy sheriff’s in Berrien, Cass and Van Buren County in Michigan and as officers in Indiana. This enables Pokagon Tribal Police officers to assist local, county and state agencies with calls for service including but not limited to traffic enforcement and investigation of crimes. The Pokagon Tribal Police Department has officers on patrol 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are dedicated to protecting and defending tribal citizens, property, welfare and the sovereignty of the Pokagon tribe.
