Homeless Prevention
The homeless prevention program is designed to prevent tribal citizens from being evicted, prevent
foreclosure, assist with move in costs and emergency housing needs.
Emergency Assistance
This program gives Pokagon Band citizens emergency money to assist with housing needs. This
money can be used for foreclosure/eviction redemption, security deposits, first months' rent, or
other emergency housing needs. There is a cap of assistance of $1,500.00, with the exception of
foreclosures. This assistance can only be granted once in a five-year period.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be an enrolled Pokagon Band citizen 18 years old or older, a non-Pokagon citizen who
has custody of minor Pokagon Band children in the household or a Pokagon Band citizen
who is an emancipated minor. - Be within the HUD INCOME LIMIT GUIDELINES (updated 5/23/2024).
- Must live within the Ten County Service Area.
- Must show affordability of the rental or mortgage (rental payment cannot exceed 30 percent
of monthly income). - Must be denied assistance from another source before receiving Emergency Assistance. If
assistance is used for foreclosure redemption citizen must make every effort to establish a
workout plan with mortgage company first. - Is not in debt to the Pokagon Band.To apply for this program, please download and complete the pre-application below and return it to the Housing & Community Development office.
